A Few Thoughts on College Football’s Coaching Carousel
As of the morning of Dec. 7, 2019, a day that surely will live in infamy for at least one of these teams:
Arkansas- Are they really thinking of bringing in SMU’s coach again?
Boston College- Anyone else think firing a coach after qualifying for a bowl game isn’t going to attract the best and brightest to Chestnut Hill?
Florida State- It seemed like a long shot first-choice James Franklin, a native Pennsylvanian, was going to leave Penn State.
New front runner Mike Norvell is intriguing. How does Memphis get these good coaches all the time? Even Tubby Smith coached their basketball team recently!
Still, a rejuvenated Seminoles program isn’t an automatic even with the right coach here. Lots of administrative uncertainty has led to the demise of FSU as much as anyplace else and there is far more competition for the Seminoles, both within the conference and state, than there once was. For example, a three-star defensive lineman from Lakeland, Morven Joseph, recently decommitted and is looking either at Tennessee or Florida now.
