Could Mister Jennings Come Back to ETSU?
Wofford’s reported interest in B.J. McKie might open up a spot on Steve Forbes coaching staff.
Adam Nelson of hoopdirt.com reported on my radio show that ETSU assistant B.J. McKie is a candidate for the head men’s coaching job at Wofford.
While he’s only a candidate, McKie to Wofford would be a name hire for the Terriers, perhaps the sort of hire that would ease the sting of losing a successful coach like Mike Young.
Though he has no head coaching experience, he is the leading scorer in the history of the South Carolina Gamecocks and led them to their only SEC men’s basketball championship 20 years ago.
Yes, that was South Carolina, not Wofford. But hiring McKie would be a lot sexier than hiring, say, Ed Conroy, the Minnesota assistant who posted an overall losing record as the head coach of The Citadel and Tulane who Nelson also reports is a candidate.
So if it’s McKie, a big if but a possibility, is it time to bring Keith Jennings back in to ETSU as an assistant basketball coach?
Many college basketball coaching staffs have a former star on their staff. The feeling is the modern day athlete wants someone who has done it to show them they can do it.
