ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Basketball Coaching Candidates Analyzed

It’s time for Jason Shay to make his play as four other coaches are being considered to succeed Steve Forbes

The website theballout.com has added three more candidates to the mix of potential ETSU men’s basketball head coaches.

They are Akron head coach John Groce, Florida assistant coach Darris Nichols, and Kentucky assistant Joel Justus.

I can confirm Nichols and Justus are being considered.

So let’s take a look at the new candidates, along with existing candidates Jason Shay and Chris Jans as well as some others that have been mentioned.

AKRON HEAD COACH JOHN GROCE

After two mediocre seasons Groce led the Zips to a 24–7 record in 2019–20

It’s something of a coup for ETSU to even be considered as a destination for a current Mid-American Conference coach. The MAC has long been considered the superior conference to the Southern, and even with the SoCon seemingly on the rise last season the MAC had the 12th best RPI rating of any conference in college basketball, while the SoCon was 13th.
