ETSU Gets It Right With the Football Start Times

Some congratulations are in order for East Tennessee State athletics.

They released their start times, and frankly they make sense.

Begin by scheduling in the evening on Saturday nights, then as the weather grows colder moving to the daytime?

Good. Don’t believe the inflated attendance figure of that 2016 game; only 549 fans were in the stands at the end of the last ETSU game played at Kermit Tipton Stadium, played on a chilly evening.

And 200 of them were pulling for Samford!

I know. I counted.

They’ve scheduled the 50th Anniversary of the ’69 Grantland Rice Bowl team for the Virginia Military game. Always good to have a victory when honoring your most famous team.

Homecoming is against The Citadel. But who else would it be scheduled against? And it IS something of a homecoming for Jaylan Adams.

Just hope the ex-Science Hill field signal caller is not a better quarterback in the defensive backfield of the Bulldogs than the motley crew of inexperienced candidates to call signals for the 2019 Buccaneers!

But what’s really to like is the start time of the Shorter game.

It’s at 7:30 pm.

Or a half-hour after Tennessee kicks off against Brigham Young.

There’s a sentiment that ETSU be so subservient to Tennessee that the Bucs do anything to avoid playing at…
