Buccaneers star Ledarrius Brewer listed as doubtful for Saturday showdown at Furman. Who will play point guard against the Paladins?

When Jason Shay was named head coach of the East Tennessee State Buccaneers’ men’s basketball program, athletic director Scott Carter referred to him as a “genius.”

ETSU fans then wondered why it took Carter a week to hire Shay when he was already in the university’s employ, but it’s not a stretch to say that if ETSU (6–4, 2–0) beats Furman (9–3, 3–0) Saturday at 4 pm eastern in an early showdown for first place in the Southern Conference, Shay will be.

That’s because it’s finally been announced LeDarrius Brewer is the player who tested positive for COVID-19 on January 4, which has caused the Bucs to have their last three games postponed.

So for the defending conference champion to defeat the preseason conference favorite on the road, Shay will have to not only find a way to win in a city the Bucs have lost five of the six games they played there since rejoining the SoCon, but likely without his leading scorer.
