Former Miami QB Cade Weldon To Transfer to ETSU

At least that’s what his twitter account says

Ever since Austin Herink played his last snap and Logan Marchi graduated early there has been a glaring question for East Tennessee State’s football team.

Who is going to play quarterback?

Theoretically there are as many as seven options, but one emerged yesterday when Cade Weldon, the son of former Heisman runner up Casey Weldon, announced he would transfer to East Tennessee State from Miami via twitter.

And while ETSU hasn’t made it official yet, with Randy Sanders’ track record of playing quarterbacks who have transferred from FBS schools, it would seem just by virtue of his resume Weldon would enter training camp as the top quarterback on the depth chart.

Sure, Miami might not be the quarterback factory it was in the ’80s, but you’re talking about someone who is 6–3, 220 pounds, 21 years old, is transferring from the ACC, and studied Mark Richt’s system.

Perhaps the most impressive stat in Weldon’s limited playing time at Miami was his rushing touchdown against Savannah State last season. The Hurricanes won, 77–0.

Weldon’s hometown is Tampa. The other quarterback from Tampa on the ETSU roster is 18 and 5–11, 174.

Do you see where Weldon might have an advantage? As well as three years of eligibility left that begins immediately.
