Has College Basketball Become a Joke?

FBI probes on recruiting, meaningless regular season are examples of a badly broken sport that needs change.

There’s an argument the Louisiana State Tigers shouldn’t be going to the NCAA Tournament this season.

Their head coach, Will Wade, was recorded by the FBI speaking of a “strong-ass offer” to convicted recruiting middleman Christian Dawkins to lure his current starting guard Javonte Smart to Baton Rouge.

We can be assured the offer wasn’t insuring Smart a good seat in class.

Such crimes are generally met with probation, and for LSU to play in the NCAA Tournament with such a stench surrounding them isn’t a good look.

Then again, Arizona’s Sean Miller has kept his job as he’s been indicated in the FBI Probe concerning the recruitment of college basketball players. And LSU suspended Wade on Friday, so at least the Tigers are trying to save some face.

National sports talk show host Colin Cowherd said it best this week; college football and baseball players are about development. College basketball players are about getting paid.

Which makes the prospect of the G-League offering $125,000 contracts to players just out of high school so intriguing. Is the G-League just keeping up with the Joneses? Or could legitimately paying…
