I Never Want to Hear About the ETSU Buccaneers’ 3-Point Streak Again

If you follow the East Tennessee State men’s basketball team, you may not know the team’s up-to-date record.

You may not know that the program has had just three losing records this century, and one of those was because their best player was kicked off the team for receiving drugs in the mail.

You may not know the origins of the “Buccaneers” nickname (few do), or that John Exum, the commander of the USS Noa ship that recused John Glenn in the Atlantic Ocean after the astronaut orbited the earth in Friendship 7, was once a star basketball player for the school; or have witnessed an ETSU victory in an NCAA Tournament game (it last happened in 1992).

But you are bound to know they have this long streak of making a 3-point basket in every game they’ve played in.

It is unavoidable. When an ETSU basketball player invariably connects on a 3-point shot early in a game, it has now become commonplace for announcers to remind us that this streak, which coming in to tonight’s game against Samford has reached 1,111 games, is still alive and with it presumably all is still wonderful in Buccaneerland.
