New coaches, new players, and now 6–9 Richard Amaefule kicks 7–0 Octavian Corley off the roster. Are the Bucs really on the right track to continue past glories?

There seemed so much promise surrounding Octavian Corley when he announced he was coming to play men’s basketball at East Tennessee State two years ago.

A 7–0 center playing for a coach, Steve Forbes, who still believed the center was a vital part of a basketball team.

His junior college stats weren’t bad, averaging 10 points a game and three blocks on a team that finished second in the NJCAA.

Maybe it was never in the cards for him to find playing time in his first season at ETSU with M’laden Armus and Lucas N’Guessan manning the middle, so Corley redshirted.

But after Armus transferred, it was time for Corley to start splitting time with N’Guessan.

He didn’t. Corley never played more than 15 minutes in any single game for ETSU last season.

Still, with N’Guessan’s eligibility expired, a quick read of the depth chart indicated 2020–21, if the season is played, would be Corley’s chance.

It won’t be. A new broom sweeps clean, and according to rivals.com, new head coach Jason Shay is bringing in, thanks to new assistant coach Greg Heiar, 6–9 Richard Amaefule to man the middle for the Bucs.

Amaefule is a native of London, England, but played for teams in Maryland and Texas during his prep years.
