Jarrett Guarantano Should Consider Transfering From Tennessee Immediately

One of the beauties of writing on medium.com is the writer can make edits.
Earlier I wrote that Jarrett Guarantano should transfer, immediately, from the Tennessee Volunteers football team, as both team and player could likely use a change.
The idea was he’d still have a year of eligibility if he left now, as one can transfer after four games and still save a year of eligibility.
Unless, of course, he has already redshirted. Which Guarantano did in 2016.

But let’s explore Guarantano’s redshirt. Granted, Guarantano wasn’t going to play when he arrived on campus in 2016. Star senior Josh Dobbs was the quarterback of the Vols, who were the preseason favorites to win the Southeastern Conference’s East Division.
So Guarantano had arrived knowing that he would not play, barring unforeseeable circumstances, that year.
But the current redshirt rule allowing players to be able to leave after playing four games did not come in to place until last year. It has resulted in five Vols…
