Only in East Tennessee Could a Coach Get Away With This

Would any other fan base/media just let this go?

It seems the fan base in east Tennessee, when it comes to player-coach disputes, is completely pro-coach.

For example, remember in 2019 when then-Tennessee Volunteers head coach grabbed quarterback Jared Guarantano’s facemask in anger after he appeared to go rouge in a goal line situation against Alabama?

I vividly remember WXSM’s Bobby Rader conducting a fan poll with more than 90 percent of the fan base supporting Pruitt’s actions.

Or how about the year before when Randy Sanders slapped Tyree Robinson, perhaps his best player, for returning an interception out of the end zone during a drill?

Sanders received a letter of reprimand for his actions, but it was all the ETSU fan base could do to defend him.

Tre Lamb hasn’t been physical with his players, thank goodness. But his first decision as coach deserves scrutiny.

Lamb’s career record against Division I competition is 18–21.
