Don’t blame Mahomes for that, though. Blame those who would give him too much praise before the right days.

Patrick Mahomes is not the greatest quarterback of all time.

He wasn’t going to be the greatest quarterback of all time if the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LV.

For Mahomes to be considered the greatest quarterback of all time, he would have to either set records (most passing yards, most Super Bowl victories, most consecutive games with a touchdown pass, etc.) or revitalize the position in some way (changing football from the single-wing to the T-Formation, best deep thrower, most efficient passer).

Perhaps Mahomes legacy will be bringing sidearm passing to the NFL. But let’s wait until he has a legacy to give him one.

There are those that say Mahomes is on his way to do so and maybe he is.

But put it this way; for an athlete to be considered “the greatest of all time” he has to have a body of work longer than four years.

And maybe after a body of work of 15 years or so Mahomes will have led the Chiefs to seven Super Bowl victories. Maybe he will be on track to break Tom Brady’s soon-to-be career passing yardage record. Maybe he’ll have a touchdown pass in 50…
