That’s what makes the Jets’ General Manager position so intriguing. Great players have become General Managers before and won, think John Elway and Ozzie Newsome.
But this isn’t taking over one’s old team. This is taking over a team he once scorned when he returned to Tennessee for his senior season rather than be selected by the lowly Jets.
Maybe it was the fact the Jets the year before had invested heavily in free agent quarterbacks Neil O’Donnell and Frank Reich, so the feeling was Manning would have to accept less money. Maybe it was the fact Manning was so beloved in Tennessee and had the opportunity of a Heisman Trophy and National Championship in his grasp, whereas at best the Jets…
