As well as the continued mediocrity of their football program

It’s almost shocking how far the East Tennessee State men’s basketball program has fallen in two seasons.

True, it wouldn’t be practical to expect perennial 30-victory seasons after the Buccaneers won that many games in 2019–20.

But it wouldn’t be too much to ask to have good teams. Teams that would continue to compete for conference championships and post winning records instead of the 24–29 mark ETSU has posted against Division I competition the past two seasons.

And the reason for this demise?

Tennessee football fans.

Think of it. If Tennessee fans don’t revolt at the proposed hiring of Greg Schiano, John Currie isn’t the athletic director at Wake Forest. He’s still the Vols’ AD.

And if Currie isn’t the athletic director at Wake Forest, then he isn’t hiring Steve Forbes to be the Demon Deacons head men’s basketball coach.

And if Forbes doesn’t go to Wake Forest, he’s still at ETSU.
