Amidst the Departure of Scott Carter and Simon Harris at ETSU What Has To Change, Both Locally and Throughout the NCAA

It’s bad enough East Tennessee State University head women’s coach Simon Harris kicked two of his players off his team and damaged their reputation for nothing.

It’s bad enough Harris tried to make up ex post facto rules in order to defend his actions.

It’s bad enough athletic director Scott Carter did nothing but go along with the “company policy” of the coach, flawed as it may be.

But then again this is the man who willingly played henchman as a young ETSU athletic administrator for the powers that dropped the very football program that brought him to campus against to a group of fans protesting that decision.

Can you say “spineless,” boys and girls?

Scott Carter

But spineless applies to so many in this whole affair.

Spineless in that to this day, who outside of this column really calls out interim athletic director Dr. Richard Sander for trying to tell us on Aug. 1 Harris’ firing and Carter’s resignation weren’t related?

With the internal investigation report out now, such a statement seems dishonest, but won’t we be ripe for more dishonesty if the media doesn’t call ETSU out for making such preposterous…
