The Need For ETSU Transparency
From anthem kneeling to looking for coaches, it’s better to keep the public informed
We’re going to learn what East Tennessee State athletics learned about the need for transparency in the coming days.
When the Buccaneers’ men’s basketball team knelt for the Star Spangled Banner when on the court this season, perhaps the real offending action was not the actual kneeling itself but the underhanded way the team performed the act.
They supposedly decided they would kneel for the national anthem prior to games prior to the season, but waited the entire season for any sort of a public statement as to why.
And when they did, it was 12 days after WJHL reported the kneeling, which in itself was nearly two months after the team first knelt.
Frankly, the video seems hollow, if for no other reason than it is after the fact.
But what if the players had put out a statement when they made the decision to kneel as to why they were?
