The Real Reason Jarrett Guarantano Remains the Starting Quarterback at Tennessee
First of all, because clamoring for Harrison Bailey is just typical armchair quarterbacks calling for the backup quarterback. And second of all . . .
“He gives us our best chance to win.”
Tennessee Volunteers head football coach has repeated that cliche time and again when asked why he is starting senior Jarrett Guarantano at quarterback.
Pruitt first uttered the line to CBS reporter Jamie Erdahl when he selected Guarantano at the last second to start against West Virginia in the 2018 season opener.
Pruitt has sometimes modified the line this year. Guarantano may “absolutely” give the Vols their best chance of winning, or he may “give us the best opportunity to have success.”
The problem is, after five straight losses and three pick-sixes, it’s getting harder and harder to believe Pruitt.
Which is why so many Vols fans are clamoring for backup quarterback Harrison Bailey to start Tennessee’s final three games.
