The Tyler Riddell Era Begins
It seems ETSU head football coach Randy Sanders has a wealth of quality quarterbacks to choose from. But what’s his track record in selecting them?
The man who will define the future of East Tennessee State football is afraid of chickens.
His name is Tyler Riddell. His fear of fowl was revealed by a sportswriter when he was still at Chamberlain High School in Tampa, and he will be the starting quarterback of the Buccaneers on Saturday at 1 pm when they begin their season as a 6 1/2 point underdog at home against Samford.
And after finishing in last place in the Southern Conference last season following a season in which the Buccaneers won a co-conference championship, the reputation of ETSU football, as well as his head coach, mainly lies with him.
Riddell’s undersized; 5–11 and 174 pounds, which leads one to wonder if he’s durable enough to last an entire season.
But, of all the many quarterbacks on the 2019 roster, Riddell had the best prep stats with more than 6,500 yards passing in his career at Tampa-based Chamberlain High School.
