These Are the Times That Try ETSU Fans Souls
It was a historic season for the SoCon! And now totally dwarfed by the major conferences in the NCAA Tournament.
Here’s where it’s tough to be an ETSU fan.
All of the major neighboring major basketball programs are still alive, whereas the Southern Conference has completely changed to baseball season at this time.
Tennessee isn’t playing particularly well, but still is a decent bet for the Final Four, where they may wind up meeting Kentucky. It’d be the sort of match-up that makes people around here pretend they live in Knoxville or the Bluegrass State.
Or maybe you’re in Southwest Virginia and are bullish about the Hokies. They haven’t been this far since 1967. Sure there are questions about losing head coach Buzz Williams after the tournament is over and having to play Duke, but three starters are set to return next season.
Sure, the program could fall with a potential coaching change, but with three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and Atlantic Coast Conference membership the chances for success have never been brighter for Virginia Tech basketball.
Meanwhile North Carolina and Virginia figure to be favorites for the Final Four.
Kinda dwarfs ETSU’s “we’ve won 100 games in four seasons,” doesn’t it?
And therein lies the dilemma for ETSU. Here is a team perhaps on the cusp of returning to the Top 25 for the next two seasons.
