Weldon Out and So Is the Passing Game at ETSU

It’s a team who’s talent should win 13–10 games, not 28–21.

Don’t look for Cade Weldon to be in the Buccaneers’ plans this season.

The quarterback transferred from Miami this off season to ETSU but was injured during the Buccaneers’ first scrimmage after throwing only three passes and did not return.

A source close to the situation now says Weldon has suffered an injury that will likely keep him out of the entire season.

Many thought Weldon would start this season at ETSU but an injury will likely keep him out of the lineup

So the quarterback of the 2019 Buccaneers, if it wasn’t apparent already, will be Chance Thrasher. Cam Lewis will likely be his backup.

There’s no way Randy Sanders can’t go in to the season not playing Thrasher. What would it mean if three FBS quarterbacks had transferred to ETSU, Logan Marchi, Chance Thrasher, and Weldon, and with the exception of a four-game experiment with Marchi none of them wound up playing?

It would mean no FBS quarterback would ever transfer to ETSU again.

One could do worse than Thrasher. Though he hasn’t overwhelmed in scrimmages, he is a former starter at Coastal Carolina who actually played, albeit briefly, against Saturday’s opponent Appalachian State last year and was once ranked as the 47th best quarterback prospect by Scout.com in the 2015 recruiting class.
