What does the Tennessee Volunteers’ hire of assistant coach Kevin Steele mean for the Tennessee Volunteers?

Does it mean if major probation is befalling the Vols, Steele is the heir apparent for the head football coaching position?

It’s possible, but if so, it also speaks of why the 3–7 Vols are as bad as they are.

Steele, most recently Auburn’s defensive coordinator, is a veteran coach who got his start at Tennessee but was only 9–36 as a head coach at Baylor

Imagine, in the midst of this housecleaning, Tennessee dismisses the corrupt coach that had to cheat to lose and replace him with . . . one of his hires?

And why would Steele be the Vols next head coach? Though the Tennessee head football coaching position isn’t as desirable as it once was, some notables, such as former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, have expressed interest in the job if it comes open.
