Where Is the Discipline on the ETSU Buccaneers?

Loss to Wofford on Monday may have revealed the team’s Achilles heel.

Tim Smith is the all-time leading scorer in East Tennessee State history, which sounds good until one considers he was a point guard.

The role of a point guard in basketball is to make the players around them better. It is not to hog the rock for himself.

Which is precisely what Smith did at the end of the two NCAA Tournament games in which he played, when he had the ball with a chance to either win or tie on ETSU’s final possession and tried to take the role on himself rather than run a set play.

This lesson in Buccaneers history comes following ETSU’s disappointing 67–62 loss to Wofford (11–5, 7–2).

Disappointing since instead of claiming first place in the Southern Conference for their own, the Bucs (10–6, 6–2) are now in a field of four teams atop the men’s basketball standings with two losses.

Disappointing since ETSU held an initial 26–12 lead but then saw the Terriers go on a 15–0 run.
